EXTOVER® – EXTINGUISHING WITH GLASS
EXTOVER is an environmentally friendly special extinguishing granulate for fighting lithium-ion battery fires and metal fires.
EXTOVER is an environmentally friendly fire protection agent that can be used for extinguishing purposes and preventive fire protection. It does not cause any extinguishing damage like water or powder and is completely harmless to the environment and the user. EXTOVER has been tested by the Materials Testing Institute Dresden (MPA). Even problematic fire loads such as lithium-ion battery fires, such as those that occur in burning electric cars, and metal fires can be controlled and extinguished with EXTOVER. Fire departments rely on EXTOVER to effectively bring battery fires under control.
Fuel, oxygen and heat are the basic requirements for a fire to burn. All three factors must be present in the correct mixing ratio. In firefighting, all methods are based on depriving combustion of one or more of its basic requirements.
By covering the fire load with EXTOVER, oxygen is displaced and separated from the fuel. Like glass, EXTOVER melts at a certain temperature. The granulate absorbs a lot of heat in the form of melting energy, thus cooling the fire and at the same time forming an impermeable cover over the fire load. A reaction with oxygen is prevented. The special granulate mixture in combination with the porous and therefore particularly large grain surface effectively binds liquids. Just like liquids, gases and vapors accumulate on the surface of the EXTOVER granules and can be disposed of in a bound state.
